NUT18: A child-centred curriculum and pedagogy
It is believed that a broad and balanced curriculum should be the right of every child rather than the more rigid and restrictive curriculum in primary schools introduced be Michael Gove and the narrow focused GCSE and A levels with a drive towards 'core subjects' at the expense of subjects such as art, drama, music and others - denying children their right to these areas of learning. The current curricula in primary and secondary schools is alienating large numbers of children. This system cannot support the needs of all children. We are against the marketisation of education. Conference calls upon the JEC of the NEU to work with interested parties to build a major conference on the curriculum, pedagogy and shaping the educational vision.
